Seal of Biliteracy – Effort to Develop Standardized Test for Polish Language

Posted on 10-06-2017 , by: Art Gmurowski , in , 0 Comments

The Polish Mission of the Orchard Lake Schools is working on developing a national standardized Polish language test which would enable students to obtain the Seal of Biliteracy through Polish language proficiency. The national Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation and is recognized by many states including Texas.

The  Seal of Biliteracy encourages students to pursue multilingualism, honors the skills they attain, and can be evidence of qualifications that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices.

The cost for developing such a standardized test is $30,000. The Polish Mission has already raised about $20,000 for this effort and needs to come up with the remainder by September. Polish organizations and individuals are asked for support.

Austin Polish Society believes that this is an important project to support and has decided to make a contribution.
