About the Performer:
Michal Korzistka started his musical journey as a young child taking his first piano lessons from his grandmother Helena. He continued his piano education at the State Music School in his hometown of Bielsko-Biala, then at the Academy of Music in Katowice, following with Postgraduate Piano Studies at the Academy of Music in Warsaw; he perfected his skills at a master class with Prof. R. Buchbinder in Zurich. Since 1985, he has been on the faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice and later on the faculty of Arts and Sciences of Education in Cieszyn, where in 2014, he was promoted to the full Professor of Musical Arts.

Michal has participated and was recognized in numerous competitions and festivals at home and abroad, including the festivals of Young Talents in Opole and Tarnów, the 1st Polish Szymanowski Piano Competition in Łódź, Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk, International Piano Competition Rina Sala Gallo in Monza, Italy, the 2nd International Music Competition in Tokyo, Japan, International Music Competition in Montreal, the 42nd International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój. He performed at the concerts in Chopin’s manor in Żelazowa Wola, during the summer concert series under the famed Chopin monument in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw, and many more. He is an active performer giving concerts in his home country of Poland and abroad.

Korzistka recorded archival material for the Academy of Music in Katowice, for Channel 2 of the National Polish Radio, and participated in the recording of a CD of Karol Szymanowski music for the acclaimed Polish recording studio Polskie Nagrania.

His four solo albums include music by Chopin, Szymanowski, Liszt, Lutosławski, and Glenc. He also recorded a CD entitled G. Rossini “Petite Messe Solennelle” with the Choir of the University of Silesia “Harmonia” in Cieszyn. His most recent album “Koboko” is a collaboration with his brother, singer and songwriter Mikolaj Korzistka, and with bassist, guitarist, arranger, and sound engineer, Mitch Bochniak. The CD presents three musical styles each performed by a different musician, harmoniously weaving classical and lyrical compositions performed by Michal, electronic arrangements written and performed by Mitch, and peaceful melodic ballads by Mikolaj. Both, this as well as Michal’s solo album, “The Music of My Soul”, will be available at today’s concert.
